Wanted: Student assistant programmer to implement interactive
touchscreen game for performing linguistic experiment

We're looking for someone to implement a simple touchscreen game. The
game will be used in a psycholinguistic experiment to test children's
comprehension of linguistic structures of the form "x said (that) y".

Candidate should have some relevant experience in creating a simple
game or other graphical application. We offer a fixed term appointment
as student assistant at the RuG, Dept of Philosophy, RuG.

The requirements for the game are as follows:

- game should preferably run on an Android/iOS tablet
(jailbroken/rooted). Windows 7, 8 or Linux on a touchscreen PC is a
possibility as well.

- child-friendly (4-9 year olds), robust touch interface resembling a
typical children's iPad game. Children's inputs to be recorded in
database (for subsequent statistical analysis).

- game involves three talking, animal characters performing a couple
of simple actions. Each round of the game looks as follows:
   * start: x,y, and z face forward; each has a basket; there's one red
car at the bottom of the screen
   * stage 1: x turns and moves to y; x whispers to y; x moves back; y
says out loud: "x says that {I,you,he} can have the red car"
   * stage 2: child touches the basket belonging to the character;
audiovisual feedback: car appears in the basket chosen.

- audiofiles will be provided separately by lead researcher.

- program should output a properly formatted spreadsheet of each
participant's answers, and timestamps/reaction times for each answer.

- to get a better idea of what's required, and the goals of the
experiment, cf: http://db.tt/EEEbRr96 [pdf] or contact the lead
researcher: [log in to unmask]

- for details on employment as a student-assistant at the RuG, cf.
http://www.rug.nl/medewerkers/humanresources/voorwaarden/aanstellingStudentAssistenten/

Salary depends on year of study. Appointment will be for max 40 hours
(0.25fte for 1 month). Game is to be completed in January 2013.

To apply, send a letter of motivation explaining your relevant
experience (e.g. programming, game or other app (co-)development,
animation, psycholinguistic experimentation etc) in Dutch or English
to Franziska Köder: [log in to unmask]
