HET PROGRAMMA VAN JUNI STAAT ONLINE | JUNE PROGRAMME OUT NOW

How do you track someone who doesn't want to be found? And how to be a man in modern society? In June we close the Academic year with a lecture tour with Sander Schaepman, chief of detectives at the TV programme Hunted, and a Let's Ask about masculinity. And there are still events on our agenda in the month of May. Check out the complete program on our site.

COLLEGE TOUR | MOLDOVA AT A CROSSROADS | WITH FORMER PRIME MINISTER NATALIA GAVRILIȚA | 15 MAY
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has placed heavy burdens on the Ukrainian people, as well as on her neighbouring countries. Among these, few have been as affected as Moldova. In this College Tour, Franka Hummels will interview former prime minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilița. DECISION MAKING WITH ALGORITHMS | NATHAN KUNCEL | 16 MAY
Algorithms are increasingly influencing our day to day lives and societies as a whole. Yet the understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, and very nature of algorithms is not widespread. Are all algorithms fundamentally the same? Should we use them for making difficult decisions? And what about carefully developed human insight and expertise? Psychologist Nathan Kuncel addresses these and many other questions. More info

MINDWISE DEBATE | THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT: STADJER OR NOT? | 22 MAY
International students aren’t new to the city. Since its founding in 1614, the University of Groningen has thrived thanks to the influence of international professors and students. However, something has changed: the number of international students has more than tripled over the past decades, and this has raised new concerns about housing and the quality of education. How has this affected the way they experience the university and the city? More info

HENDRIK DE WAARD LECTURE | CLEVERLY SHAPED STELLARATORS | 23 MAY
Nuclear fusion - the power that fuels the sun - is a promising approach to obtaining a CO2-free, safe and continuous energy source. For decades researchers have tried to make nuclear fusion happen on Earth, but the ideal fusion reactor does not exist… yet. In this year’s Hendrik de Waard Lecture, Josefine Proll will share recent developments in nuclear fusion. More info
