Inmiddels zijn de zes werkgroepen aan het werk, en is het hoofd van de afdeling “Education Support Center” benoemd. Het faculteitsbestuur zegt toe om kort na 1 oktober, als de adjunct-directeuren onderwijs over de voortgang in de werkgroepen hebben gesproken, een nieuwsbrief te sturen naar alle betrokken medewerkers. De raad vindt snelle en zorgvuldige communicatie belangrijk. In juni, toen werd ingestemd met deze organisatieverandering, heeft de raad het bestuur op het hart gedrukt dat het verwerven en behouden van draagvlak ervoor bij het betrokken personeel essentieel is. U kunt contact met ons opnemen via <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] of <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] · Bespreking beleidsvoornemens voor het komend jaar Het beleid voor FWN voor het komend academisch jaar is gebaseerd op het document “Strategy 2012-2016 Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 8 March 2012” dat op 21 maart 2012 besproken is in de faculteitsraad. De belangrijkste beleidsvoornemens van het faculteitsbestuur zijn er op gericht om de ambities die in dit document verwoord zijn komend jaar ook daadwerkelijk in gang te zetten en/of waar te maken. Het gaat dan bij onderwijs om zaken als verbetering van de studierendementen en invoering van de Engelstalige bachelor. Bij het onderzoek staan zaken als topkwaliteit, synergie en valorisatie op de agenda. Voor wat betreft financiën en organisatie gaat de aandacht naar het realiseren van een gezonde toekomst, de invoering van de Graduate en de Undergraduate School en een mogelijke fusie van instituten. Verder is het bestuur komend jaar onder meer bezig met de aanhechting van de faculteit bij de Energy Academy, de verdere planvorming voor nieuwbouw ter vervanging van het complex op Nijenborg 4, de zorg voor het handhaven van wetenschappelijke integriteit en de inzet van (nieuwe) innovatiemiddelen voor het verbeteren van het onderwijs. Last but not least wil het faculteitsbestuur zich hard maken voor het verbeteren van de informatievoorziening aan de studenten en medewerkers over al deze onderwerpen. Deze onderwerpen zullen ook, waar nodig uitgebreid, besproken worden in de komende raadsvergaderingen. · Financiële situatie In de meerjarenbegroting 2013-2016, welke een positief karakter heeft, zijn de tekorten van de vorige begroting nagenoeg verdwenen. Dit is te danken aan een stevige kostenreductie. Daarnaast kiest het faculteitsbestuur voor inzet op groei in plaats van krimp. Voor groei zijn forse inspanningen nodig van studenten, medewerkers en besturen. Eind oktober zal duidelijk zijn of het College van Bestuur en het faculteitsbestuur tot overeenstemming komen met betrekking tot de financiële toekomst van de faculteit. Vooralsnog lijkt de nu al twee jaar bestaande dreiging van een reorganisatie met deze meerjarenbegroting afgewend. Since June six working parties have come into action. Also the head of the "Education Support Center" has now been appointed. The Faculty Board promises to send a newsletter to all involved staff shortly after 1 October, when the Deputy Directors of Education have spoken about the progress of the working parties. The Council believes apt communication is important. In June, when the Council approved of the organizational change, the Council has urged the Board that acquiring and retaining support for the organizational change with the staff members involved is essential for a successful outcome. You can contact us via <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] or <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] · Discussion on the course of action for the coming year The policy for FWN for the coming academic year is based on the document "Strategy 2012-2016 Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 8 March 2012", which has been discussed in the Faculty Council and Board Meeting on March 21, 2012. The Board explains that their main concern is to realize the ambitions expressed in this document. For education this involves improvement of study performance and the introduction of English Bachelors. With respect to research quality, synergy and valorization are the main issues. Regarding finances and organization, the attention of the Board is directed to achieving a healthy budget, the implementation of the Graduate and Undergraduate School and, potentially, mergers of research institutions. Other(new) issues are the participation of the faculty in the Energy Academy, involvement in (advanced) planning for a new building to replace the complex Nijenborg 4, maintaining scientific integrity and the optimal use of (new) innovation resources to improve the education. Last but not least, the Faculty Board wants to improve the flow of information on these issues towards students and staff. All these issues will be discussed, some extensively, in future Faculty Council and Board Meetings. · Financial Situation The budget for the financial years 2013-2016 has a positive character. The deficits of the previous document on the financial years 212-2015 have nearly disappeared. This is due to a combination of a strong cost reduction and a strong focus on growth instead of downsizing of the faculty. To realize this growth considerable efforts of students, staff and boards are necessary. End of October it will become clear whether the Executive Board and the Faculty Board reach agreement with respect to the financial future of the faculty. As yet it looks like the threat of reorganization (existing for two years already) has been turned aside.
